Tiny kittens found living behind dumpster and being petted

It was an early morning in California when the team at Cats of San Bernardino received a phone call that would kickstart their day.

A friend of the rescue group called at 6 AM with some concerning news – two small kittens had been spotted wandering around the parking lot of a YMCA.

Worried for their safety, the friend didn’t hesitate to scoop them up and contact the local volunteer team for help.

The rescue group, led by one of their dedicated volunteers, rushed to the YMCA to assess the situation.

They had a sinking feeling that there might be more kittens, or worse, a mother cat left behind. The team carefully searched the area as soon as they arrived, hoping to find any signs of more kittens or their mama.

The parking lot seemed quiet, except for the faint sounds of early morning traffic. But as they approached the far end of the lot, near a dumpster, a soft, tiny meow pierced the still air:

“We started meowing for them. We heard tiny return meows from underneath a dumpster. We were greeted by two more tiny babies.”

The team knew they had to act fast. Starving kittens don’t have much time to wait. Without hesitation, the volunteer crouched down behind the dumpster, straining her eyes to spot any movement.

To her surprise, two more tiny kittens peeked out from the shadows, meowing back at her. They looked weak, scared, and in desperate need of help.

With great care, she picked up the tiny furballs, one by one. The team, all on high alert, searched the area to ensure no other kittens were left behind. Thankfully, after a thorough search, these four were the only ones.

But they were still worried… Where was the mama cat?

It had been over four hours since anyone had seen her, and the kittens were clearly hungry. The volunteer expressed her concern:

“We hope nothing bad has happened to Mom. Our friend will be setting a trap for her over the next couple of days.”

If the mama cat is found, the team hopes she can be spayed, and maybe even adopted if she turns out to be friendly. For now, though, the four kittens are safe, and that’s what matters most.

In a heartwarming twist, these tiny babies will be featured at the rescue’s upcoming adoption event. While they’re too young to be adopted just yet, they will be available for pre-adoption.

This means people can reserve them by paying the adoption fee, and once the kittens are old enough, spayed or neutered, and fully vetted, they’ll be ready to go home to their new families.

The volunteer and her team were relieved to have saved the little kittens, but there’s always more to the story with stray cats. “We’re hopeful their mom will return,” she added.

Until then, the team is doing everything they can to keep the babies fed, safe, and healthy.

This story reminds us how important it is to notify local rescue teams or shelters. If it weren’t for their friend and the rescue’s quick response, these kittens might have faced a much different fate.

Thanks to the dedication of Cats of San Bernardino and their compassionate network, four tiny lives were saved that morning.

For now, the kittens are safe, warm, and loved, eagerly awaiting the day when they can meet their future forever families.
